Bang Bang Chicken Recipe
Prep Time: 25 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Serves: 4
Ingredients
For the Chicken:
2 large chicken breasts
1-inch piece of ginger (sliced)
2 cloves garlic
2 green onions
1 tsp salt
Water (enough to cover the chicken)
For the Sauce:
3 tbsp sesame paste (or tahini)
2 tbsp peanut butter (optional, for extra creaminess)
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp black vinegar (or rice vinegar)
1 tbsp chili oil (adjust to your spice preference)
1 tbsp honey or sugar
1 tsp sesame oil
1 clove garlic (minced or grated)
1 tsp ginger (minced or grated)
For Garnish:
1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
2 tbsp crushed peanuts (optional)
Fresh cilantro leaves
Thinly sliced cucumber
Julienned carrots
Sliced radishes
Fresh red chilies (thinly sliced)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Chicken
1. Fill a pot with water and add ginger slices, garlic cloves, green onions, and salt. Bring to a boil.
2. Add the chicken breasts and reduce to a simmer. Poach for 15-20 minutes until fully cooked (internal temperature: 165°F/74°C).
3. Remove the chicken from the water and let it cool. Once cooled, shred the chicken into thin strips using your hands or forks.
2. Make the Bang Bang Sauce
1. In a bowl, combine sesame paste, peanut butter (if using), soy sauce, black vinegar, chili oil, honey, sesame oil, minced garlic, and ginger.
2. Whisk until smooth. Adjust seasoning by adding more soy sauce for saltiness or chili oil for spice. If the sauce is too thick, thin it out with 1-2 teaspoons of water.
3. Assemble the Dish
1. Arrange shredded chicken in the center of a large plate or shallow bowl.
2. Surround the chicken with cucumber slices, julienned carrots, and radish slices for a colorful presentation.
3. Drizzle the sauce generously over the chicken.
4. Garnish and Serve
1. Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds and crushed peanuts on top.
2. Add fresh cilantro leaves and sliced red chilies for a pop of color.
3. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
Aesthetic Tips
Plating: Use a white or black plate to make the vibrant colors stand out.
Texture: Add a mix of crunchy veggies (e.g., radishes and carrots) and creamy sauce for a satisfying contrast.
Garnishes: Use edible flowers or microgreens for an extra aesthetic touch.
