Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1 tbsp olive oil
1 large onion, finely chopped
1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
1/2 cup mushrooms, finely chopped (optional)
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup beef broth
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
Salt and black pepper, to taste
4 slices provolone cheese
4 hamburger buns
Instructions
Cook the Beef:
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
Drain excess fat if necessary.
Sauté Vegetables:
Add chopped onion, green bell pepper, and mushrooms (if using) to the skillet.
Cook until vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
Simmer the Mixture:
Pour in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, oregano, and basil.
Stir to combine and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the liquid reduces and the mixture thickens.
Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Add Cheese:
Place slices of provolone cheese on top of the beef mixture.
Cover the skillet and let the cheese melt for about 2-3 minutes.
Assemble the Sloppy Joes:
Toast the hamburger buns if desired.
Spoon the cheesesteak mixture onto the bottom half of each bun.
Top with the other half of the bun.
Serve:
