Glazed Maple Leaf Cookies
Delicate, Buttery Cookies with a Sweet Maple Glaze – Shaped Like Maple Leaves for the Perfect Fall Treat
Ingredients:
For the cookies:
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup maple syrup (pure, not artificial)
1 large egg yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
For the maple glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
1-2 tablespoons milk (to thin the glaze as needed)
A pinch of salt
Directions:
Prepare the cookie dough: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the maple syrup, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, mixing until combined. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing just until the dough comes together.
Chill the dough: Divide the dough in half and shape each half into a disc. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until firm.
Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
Roll and cut the cookies: On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disc of dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use a maple leaf-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the cookies and place them on the prepared baking sheets. Re-roll the scraps and cut more cookies as needed.
Bake the cookies: Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Make the maple glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, a pinch of salt, and enough milk to create a smooth, spreadable glaze.
Glaze the cookies: Once the cookies are completely cool, use a spoon or pastry brush to glaze each cookie with the maple glaze. Let the glaze set before serving.
